The Kansas City Royals are an MLB team in the American League Central division. They came into the MLB as an expansion team in 1969. Since April 10, 1973, the Royals have played their home games at Kauffman Stadium.
Starting in 1976, the Royals had a dominant decade of baseball led by star players like Amos Otis, Hal McRae, John Mayberry, and future Hall of Famer George Brett. During that span, the Royals made the playoffs in seven of those seasons and won the pennant twice, in 1980 and 1985. In 1985 in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Royals fell behind three games to one but ultimately rallied back to win the first World Series in franchise history. After winning the 1985 World Series, the Royals would go 29 seasons before making the postseason again. In 2014, the Royals made it to the playoffs as a Wild Card team and would go all the way to the World Series. The Royals ultimately fell in the World Series after a historic performance by the San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner in Game 7 pitched five scoreless innings of relief on two days rest to defeat the Royals. Still, the young core of Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar gained great experience, which came in handy in the following season.
The Royals would go on to win the AL Central in 2015 and would dismantle the New York Mets in five games for their second World Series championship in franchise history, thirty years after their first.
