Historical Milestones
Joe Flacco has been the starting quarterback with the Baltimore Ravens ever since his rookie season and is most known for his historic Super Bowl run in 2013. Flacco played his college football at the University of Delaware and began to show his NFL-potential during the 2007 season. Flacco led his team to an 8-3 record while throwing for 4,263 yards and 23 touchdowns with just five picks. During his time as a Blue Hen, Flacco set 20 school records. Flacco was then selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
In 2008, Flacco ended up getting the job as the starting quarterback and went on to have a great season passing for 2,971 yards with 14 touchdowns. Following the season, Flacco won the 2008 Pepsi Rookie of the Year award. From his rookie season on, Flacco continued to put up seasons of 3,500 yards or more with 20 plus touchdowns but began to generate a lot of doubters as he could not win the big game to get Baltimore to the Super Bowl. That all changed though in the 2013 season as Flacco led the Ravens on an incredible playoff run. After winning the Wild Card round game, Flacco faced the Broncos in the Divisional Round. With his team down 35-28 and only having one last chance to tie the game, Flacco connected with Jacoby Jones on a 70-yard touchdown pass to send the game to overtime. The play was dubbed the “Mile High Miracle” and is considered one of the greatest plays in NFL history.
After the Ravens won in overtime in the Divisional Round, Flacco outdueled Tom Brady in a 28-13 win that secured the Ravens spot in the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl XLVII, the Ravens were considered underdogs but due to Flacco’s 287 yards and three touchdown performance they upset the 49ers to win the Super Bowl. By throwing three touchdowns in that game, he tied the NFL record for most consecutive playoff games with at least three touchdown passes as he had down to the last three games.
