Jim Furyk, one of the top level golf players, also has an eccentric way method of executing a looping golf swing. This apparent skill has earned him the nickname of “The Grinder”. Furyk was born in West, Chester Pennsylvania and attended the University of Arizona.
Furyk decided to go professional in 1992. He has had 25 professional wins including 15 PGA Tour wins. From 1998 to 2003, he has won at least one tournament for each year. His winning streak is only second to that of Tiger Woods’. His first win came when playing for the Las Vegas Invitational in 1995. In 1998 and 199, Furyk won the same invitational and then the Doral-Ryder Open in 2000. He clinched the Mercedes Championships in 2001, the Memorial Tournament in 2002 and then the US Open in 2003.
He underwent surgery for cartilage damage in his wrist in 2004, but he bounced back in 2005 and even won the Cialis Western Open. He had an even greater year in 2006 after he won both the Wachovia Open and the Canadian Open (which he won again in 2007).
Furyk is currently third in the 2010 Money List.
