Historical Milestones
A native of British Columbia, Jamie Benn started his career with the Dallas Stars after being drafted 129th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. After a season of being in and out of the team, he finally broke into the starting line-up in the 2011 season and went on to take a leading role with the Stars. The left winger quickly became a fan favorite in Dallas, and even beat Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Drouin, and Matt Read in the Accuracy Shooting contest in that season’s All-Star game SuperSkills Competition.
Being named a team captain in 2013, Benn signed a contract extension with the Stars and became a pivotal part of the team. 2015 proved to be the Canadian’s breakout season as he finished with 87 points, which was enough to win him the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the player with the most points in the season. He beat out John Tavares of the NY Islanders in dramatic fashion, with a secondary assist in the last ten seconds of the final regular season game. Due to his increasing value to the team, Dallas gave him an 8-year deal worth $76 million, keeping him with the Stars through the 2024-25 season.
