Jack Ham is a Hall of Fame linebacker that was a key cog in one of the best defenses in NFL, the Steelers of the 1970s. Ham played his college football at Penn State and had a standout career there as well. Ham led Penn State to two undefeated 11-0 seasons as a starter and was an All-American in his senior season. Ham entered the 1971 NFL Draft as one of the best linebackers in the nation and was selected 34th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ham started for the Steelers as a rookie but really hit his stride in 1974, which was the first of six-straight seasons that he was named First-Team All-Pro.
That string of six-straight All-Pro seasons happened to coincide with the Steelers best era in franchise history when they won four Super Bowls in six years. Ham was a very quick linebacker, with the ability to drop back in coverage as well as be a force up front for the Steelers. Ham had 32 interceptions during his career, which is third-most all-time for any linebacker. His 52 takeaways are actually the most by any non-defensive back in NFL history. Ham spent his entire 12-year career with the Steelers and was a Pro Bowler in nine of those seasons.
Upon his retirement, Ham was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his exceptional career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
