Franco Harris is one of the greatest running backs in the history of the NFL. In his first season, Harris rushed for 1,055 yards on just 188 carries for 5.6 yards per carry and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. This was the first of nine straight Pro Bowl seasons for Harris with eight of those nine seasons being 1,000 yard rushing seasons for the iconic back. His eight 1,000 yard seasons broke a record that had been set by legendary Browns running back Jim Brown. Harris led the league in rushing touchdowns with 14 in 1976 and was named the NFL’s Man of the Year for his work off of the field.

In his third season, Harris won his first Super Bowl with the Steelers and was named the MVP of that game. Harris rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown as the Steelers beat the Minnesota Vikings 16-6 in Super Bowl IX. The Steelers defended their title the following year to win Super Bowl X. Harris won four Super Bowls altogether in his career as they won two straight Super Bowls again in 1978 (XIII) and 1979 (XIV). With Terry Bradshaw, the tandem of Harris with fellow running back Rocky Bleier and a great defense, the Steelers dominated the 1970s.

Upon his retirement, Harris was elected to the Hall of Fame and while his number has not been officially retired by the Steelers, he is the last Pittsburgh player to wear the No. 32.
