Ernie Banks carved out a legacy that will stand the test of time. This former Chicago Cubs shortstop and first baseman will go down in history as one of the feared sluggers to ever play in Major League Baseball. Banks played his entire nineteen year career as a member of the Cubs on the North Side of Chicago. Over the course of Banks’ impressive MLB career he had 512 home runs, 1,636 runs batted in, 2,583 hits, and scored 1,305 runs.
During Ernie Banks’ unbelievable big league career he was selected to fourteen All-Star Teams. Banks also won a Gold Glove Award and the 1958 and 1959 National League MVP Awards. In 1977 he was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with 83.8% of the vote. To commemorate his unbelievable career the Cubs retired Banks’ number 14 jersey and he was even named to the MLB All-Century Team.
