Historical Carmelo Anthony Milestones
Carmelo Anthony’s path to superstardom started during high school year’s at the Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where he became one of the nation’s most highly touted recruits. Anthony eventually signed with Syracuse and would be playing his college ball in his home state of New York. Carmelo was a “one and done” in college after averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds a game and leading the Syracuse Orange to their first NCAA National Championship. Anthony was awarded the Most Outstanding Player Award in the NCAA Tournament and quickly became a top NBA Draft prospect. Carmelo was taken 3rd overall by the Denver Nuggets in the legendary 2003 NBA Draft that produced fellow superstars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Anthony averaged nearly 25 points per game during 8 years in Denver and was named an NBA All-Star three times with the Nuggets before being traded to the New York Knicks midway through the 2010-2011 season. It was in New York where Carmelo was surrounded by pieces like Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler that gave him a real shot at winning his first NBA title, something that was deemed unachievable in Denver. Unfortunately for Carmelo and the Knicks, the team failed to reach the Eastern Conference Finals during his time in the Big Apple. A lack of winning NBA titles has not slowed down the scoring threat that Anthony is. Carmelo Anthony put up career best numbers in the 2012-2013 season, leading the NBA with an astounding 28.7 points per game. Carmelo is identified as one of the games purest scorers and seeks to add an NBA championship to his list of accomplishments that include 10 NBA All-Star Game appearances and being named to the 2003-2004 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Carmelo Anthony is not only one of the most popular basketball players on the planet, but one of the most popular athletes in general. This future Hall of Fame player has made an impact on every basketball court he has stepped on since he was a teenager, taking the game by storm and becoming a relentless scorer.
