Hailing from the desert the Arizona Cardinals are an iconic NFL franchise. A little-known fact about the Cardinals is that they are the oldest continuously run professional football franchise. They are also one of the founding members of the National Football League. Over the course of their history, this franchise has also been known as the Phoenix Cardinals, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cardinals, and other names.
The Cardinals are members of the National Football Conference’s Western Division. In total, the franchise has won seven division titles and an NFC title during the 2008 NFL season. This organization has even won two NFL Championships in 1925 and 1947. In 1947 Head Coach Jimmy Conzelman led the franchise to their second NFL title. The offense was powered by running backs Elmer Angsman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Charley Trippi. Roger Wehrli was selected by them with the nineteenth overall pick of the 1969 NFL Draft. Wehrli would go on to become one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history being named to seven Pro Bowl Teams and the First-Team All-Pro three times. Safety Larry Wilson was teamed with Wehrli and was an eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time First-Team All-Pro himself, as part of one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Throughout the 1970’s and early-1980’s Hall of Famer Dan Dierdorf solidified their offensive line and was selected to numerous Pro Bowl Teams along the way. In the mid-2000s the Cardinals emerged as one of the best teams in the league. Led by Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald they had their first Super Bowl appearance following the 2008 NFL season. They would go on to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl XLIII 27-23, in what is considered to be one of the greatest Super Bowl Games of all-time.
In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cardinals drafted the Kyler Murray with the first overall selection. Winner of the 2019 Heisman Trophy, Murray was one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in NCAA history. He was also selected 9th overall in the 2018 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics proving himself as one of the best two-sport athletes in recent history.
Since the turn of the century, many more great players have worn the Cardinals red and white uniform. Those legends include Darnell Dockett, Anquan Boldin, and Hall of Famers Kurt Warner, and Aeneas Williams. Shop for your very own sports memorabilia for these icons before we are completely sold out.
