About 2018 NBA champions

For the fourth consecutive season, the NBA Finals featured a matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, this was almost not the case because both teams found themselves down 3-2 in the conference finals. Both teams were able to come back and set up Cavs/Warriors Part 4.

Fans were hoping for a great series between the two rivals similar to the first two, and they thought that that was what they were going to get after Game 1. The teams trading punches and were back and forth the entire game. The Cavs had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds with George Hill at the free throw line shooting two with the Cavaliers down just one. Hill made the first but missed the second but J.R. Smith came down with the offensive rebound but had a mental cramp and instead of going up for a layup, dribbled the ball out thinking the Cavs had the lead. The game would go into overtime where the Warriors made them pay and the game ended with the Dubs winning by 10. The Cavaliers seemed deflated after that and in Game 2 got trounced by the Warriors which were led by Steph Curry's 33 points and assisted by Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson who combined for 46. The series then shifted across the country to Cleveland where the Cavs looked to take advantage of playing on their home court. Game 3 saw LeBron James and the Cavaliers take a 6-point lead into halftime but that was the extent of the positive for Cleveland as Kevin Durant exploded for 43 points. Three of those 43 points included the dagger pull up 3-pointer with just under one minute remaining to catapult the Warriors to a 3-0 series lead. Durant his an identical shot in Game 3 of the 2017 Finals from almost the exact same spot in a similar situation. The Dubs once again dominated the Cavs in Game 4 and blew them out of the arena by 23 points. Kevin Durant earned the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP award for his incredible series.
