They are the athletic teams of the West Virginia University. They are called as the West Virginia Mountaineers and they are part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I and as well as in the Big East Conference. They also have their mascot whose name is Mountaineer. In addition, there are 17 varsity sports teams that the West Virginia Mountaineers is boasting and among these 17 groups, two of the most famous lineups are their football and basketball team. The song was about the salutation to the state of West Virginia. The official colors of the team are old gold and blue. These colors were officially selected by the upperclassmen of the university in the season of 1890. 

 

Based in Morgantown, West Virginia, the West Virginia Mountaineers is affiliated with the big East Conference. They have a total of thirteen varsity sports; two of which is considered their major sports-the basketball and football. Eleven of their basketball players have made it to the NBA. One of the outstanding players of the university was Joe Alexander who once played for the Chicago Bulls. Aside from basketball, the university has also molded great football players who have also made it to the National Football League. Steve Slaton, a running back of the Houston, Texas has been a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
