The Tennessee Volunteers is the official athletics program for the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. The team had it’s inaugural season in 1891 and since then the Volunteers have been one of the most successful programs in college football. Since the 1930’s they have played in the famed Southeastern Conference and pack their home Neyland Stadium with over 100,000 fans on game days.
Playing in the conference referred to as the most difficult in the country, the Tennessee Volunteers compete for the SEC championship year in and year out. The Vols ended a 30 year drought in 1998, when they won their sixth national championship and first since the 1967 season. Along with six national titles to their name, Tennessee has taken home 16 conference championships and produced 38 All-Americans. Some of the greatest football players in the history of the game have at one point called Rocky Top their home. An incredible number of football greats from past and present have been Tennessee Volunteers, like Hall of Fame defensive end Reggie White and current NFL heroes Peyton Manning and Jason Witten.
