The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, based in Tampa, Florida, are a member of the NFL’s NFC Southern Division. Originally owned by Tom McCloskey, The Bucs were an expansion team that played their first year in the AFC West before becoming an NFC South team. While the Bucs called the Tampa Stadium home from 1976 to 1997, the team now plays in the Raymond James Stadium.
Although the Bucs began their franchise in 1976 with some less than ideal stats and were in fact the worst team in the NFL, they found success under the lead of Doug Williams, Rickey Bell and Lee Roy Selmon. Making the playoffs in back to back years, the Bucs’ luck seemed to be turning around. Despite this 180 degree change, the Bucs could not hold onto a successful run in the NFL and struggle with more losing seasons than hoped for. With the hiring of legendary coaches Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden, the team’s outlook became positive and in 2002 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought home the Super Bowl XXXVII title, the first in this team’s long await franchise.
