At present, they are members of the Southern Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League. As an expansion team together with the Seattle Seahawks, the team was able to play their first season in the AFC West. They then became part of the NFC. Their name as the Tampa Bay was from the word that describes a geographic metropolitan area at the St. Petersburg. Originally, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an expansion franchise was awarded to Tom McCloskey. He is a construction company owner that is from Philadelphia. Some of their fans also had known them as the Pewter Pirates. The team first played in their home field that is at the Tampa Stadium.  They played in that arena from 1976 to 1997.
