As the Blues reached the Stanley Cup finals starting 1968 for three successive years, there were many opportunities that fans of the team still discuss about. The team failed to win the trophy but still this period marks some of the best achievements of the team.
The St Louis Blues has had a tumultuous run up to today. The team management went bankrupt several times and there were periods when there was no one willing to invest in the team. For instance, in 1977, after much persuasion, Ralston Purina decided to put in money to rebuild the devastated team. They also pumped in money to renovate the Blues’ Arena, which they decided to call the Checkerdome. When Red Berenson took over as coach in 1979-80, he was given enviable talent in the likes of
Brian Sutter,
Mike Liut, Perry Turnbull and Wayne Babych to build a strong team, exactly what he did. However, this dream run also did not last long and again, the Blues were in dire straits.
