The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles are the name given to the varsity sports teams of the University of Southern Mississippi. The first nickname that the team has was the Tigers. Then, they were also called as the Normalites, Yellow Jackets, Confederates and Southerners. One of the famous groups that they have was their football team. In addition, their football team has a famous rival too and this is the Tulane Green Wave Football. This rivalry that they have was born on October 13, 1979. Moreover, this rivalry is known as The Battle for the Bell. There are 14 varsity teams that are encompassing the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The team’s mascot is named as Seymour d’Campus and they are also known with their nickname that is the Golden Eagles. The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have their fight song that is entitled Southern to the Top.
