Bringing the banner of the Seton Hall University, the Seton Hall Pirates are athletic teams that are competing in the Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Starting in the 1979-80 season, all sports are already participating in the Big East Conference. Having Patrick Lyons as their athletic director, the Pirates are composed of 14 varsity teams. Characterizing the teams’ colors are blue, white and gray. The sports that the university fields include the basketball, cross country, golf, soccer and swimming & diving. On the other hand, only the men’s team plays for the baseball and only the women’s sports have the tennis and volleyball. If someday you would want to see the Pirates’ stadium, you can visit their basketball arena at the Prudential Center, the baseball and soccer stadium at the Owen T. Carroll Field and the softball stadium is at the Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field. In 1903, the university is able to sponsor the men’s basketball. They have in fact prevailed in the 1953’s National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Unfortunately, they lost in the NCAA Tournament finals of 1989 to Michigan having a score of 80-79 in overtime.
