By definition, mascots are images of humans or animals or any object that is believed to bring luck. Mascots are used to represent a sports team among others. In sports, the most common purpose of a mascot is for merchandising and usually appears during matches to entertain the audience. Mascots are also used as ambassadors of goodwill representing the team in the community.
The Sacramento kings mascot is named Slamson, the Lion. He has been the team mascot since 1998. Before Slamson, the team mascot was named “The Gorilla”. Slamson’s full name is Felinus Entertanus Maximus. He was born in the fall of 1998 under the sign of Leo. According to sources he was born in Ngoro Ngoro Crater in Tanzania. He went to college in Lion-el University. His most favorite book is Cat in the Hat, his favorite movie is The Lion King and his favorite song is Cat Scratch Fever.
He was said to have been found by the Kings Pro scouts while he was napping under a bench in an old Sacramento Park. He loves to hug and make the Kings Fans smile.
This mascot is a fixture in all of the Kings home games, where he is known for his funny and entertaining shows and costumes. Slamson is not only available to entertain fans in his hometown; he has also been known to perform for international fans. Most teams in the NBA have their own mascots, and some of the most popular are Clutch the Bear of the Houston Rockets. Created in 1995, he became Mascot of the Year in 2006 and was inducted to the Mascot hall of Fame at the same time.
The Antonio Spurs on the other hand has Cayote as its official mascot. He was first introduced in 1983. He is distinctively known as the only mascot who growls whenever he sees “The Mailman”. He was inducted to the Mascot hall of Fame in 2007.
Boomer and Browser are the two official mascots of the NBA team Indiana Pacers. They are usually present during the Pacers’ home games. Boomer, who was first created in 1991, is a cat who is fond of performing dunks and dance routines; Browser on the other hand is a dog and was more recently introduced in 2001.
The Denver Nuggets’ official mascot is named Rocky, the Mountain Lion. He was first introduced in 1990 and is considered one of the most familiar mascots in the NBA today.
Skyhawk is the name of the team mascot of the Atlanta Hawks. He is a hawk with human attributes who is known to wear basketball shorts over his body suit made of nylon. He has a mask and wears wrestling boots.
