They are initially named as the Rochester Royals and were established in Rochester, New York. The team was actually founded in the season of 1945. It was Les Harrison and Jack Harrison who first established the team. In the very first year of the team, sources said that they were able to earn the NBL championship. That was in the season of 1945- 1946. In 1948, they tied with the National Basketball Association. Today, the team is being managed by Geof Petrie and the head coach is Paul Westphal. Moreover, since the fall of 1998, the official mascot of the Sacramento Kings was introduced to the public. Its name was Slamson the Lion. Before Slamson the Lion, they have their mascot from 1985 up to the period of 1998 and it was “The Gorilla”.

The Sacramento Kings started in 1945. The Kings then joined the NBA in 1948. Its names used to be Rochester Royals then renamed to Cincinnati Royals. They became Kansas City-Omaha Kings from 1972 to 1975. From 1975 to 1985, they were called as Kansas City Kings. It was in 1985 when they became the Sacramento Kings.

 

In 2002 and 2003, the Kings were able to earn their division titles for NBA. It was during these years when the team had players like Doug Christie, Peja Stojakovic and Chris Webber. Back in 2001, these players contributed to a good season after landing on the cover story of Sports Illustrated in their February 2001 issue. The story that referred to the team was called “The Greatest Show On Court” which also led their way to becoming the winner for the playoff series after twenty long years of not grabbing the title.
