It was Les Harrison and Jack Harrison who first established the team. In the very first year of the team, sources said that they were able to earn the NBL championship. That was in the season of 1945- 1946. In 1948, they tied with the National Basketball Association. Today, the team is being managed by Geof Petrie and the head coach is Paul Westphal. Moreover, since the fall of 1998, the official mascot of the Sacramento Kings was introduced to the public. Its name was Slamson the Lion. Before Slamson the Lion, they have their mascot from 1985 up to the period of 1998 and it was “The Gorilla”.

They became Kansas City-Omaha Kings from 1972 to 1975. From 1975 to 1985, they were called as Kansas City Kings. It was in 1985 when they became the Sacramento Kings.
