 They are competing in the Big East Conference in the Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. On the other hand, their hockey team is jockeying for position in the Hockey East Conference and they have their volleyball for women that are running for in the America East Conference. There are 17 varsity sports teams. One of the biggest rivals of the Providence Friars was the varsity sports teams of the Boston University and Boston College. One of the famous teams that the Providence Friars have is their basketball group for men that are playing their home games at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, in Rhode Island. In the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, the Providence Friars was able to make two final four appearances. That was in 1973 and 1987. There were three players or coaches of the team that is said to have enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
