The Pittsburgh Penguins are professional team in ice hockey that is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As one of the first expansion teams in the duration of the league’s original expansion, the Pittsburgh Penguins was founded in the season of 1967. It was on February 8, 1966 that NHL was able to award an expansion team for the Pittsburgh Penguins for the seasons of 1967 up to 1968. Starting out as a civic rejuvenation plan, the Penguins carved a name in the sports. According to our sources, the Penguins’ name is derived from their playing arena in Pittsburgh, the “Igloo”. Their signature black-and-gold color was derived only in the 80’s but was met with protests. The team currently plays for Pittsburgh, bound by a 30-year contract owing to the construction of the Consol Energy Center, added the 21-year naming rights.
Their first entry into the NHL in the 1967-1968 season was not an easy one, being met with a fierce resistance and limits set by the Original Six. However, they had made an early mark, being the first team to win against an Original Six team---the Chicago Black Hawks. They produced superstars like Michael Briere during the late 60’s and
Mario Lemieux in the 80’s. Players like

Evgeni Malkin also played for the Penguins, eventually giving them two Stanley Cups, with one defeating the Minnesota North Stars.

Being threatened with relocation in Seattle once, the team made it through with the help of a group of NHL teams against the fold-downs. The other incident was when they had accumulated large amount of debts in the 70’s and 80’s. Lemieux in his retirement converted the franchise into an equity and bought it, Up until now, the Lemieux group owns the Penguins.
