About Penn State Nittany Lions Trading Cards and Tickets

The Penn State Nittany Lions foot ball team had several prominent seasons to boast of since its establishment in 1887. The team had fourteen coaches since its inception, although for several years from 1887-1891, they went about without a coach. Starting 1892, George Hoskins was hired as head coach. His tenure lasted until 1895.

The next coach from 1896 was Samuel Newton who was head coach until 1898. Sam Boyle followed but was only with the team for a year. William “Pop” Golden was next and served from the year 1900-1902. Serving only for a year, Daniel A. Reed became the team’s head coach in 1903. He later on became a US Representative from New York. From 1904-1906 the Nittany Lion’s head coach was Tom Fennel and was succeeded by Bill Hollenback, a former Penn State player who was head coach from 1909, 1911-1914. He was the older of his successor Jack Hollenback. The younger Hollenback served briefly as coach in 1910 after which he was again replaced by his brother.

From 1915-1917 the Penn State football head coach was Dick Harlow, he was also a Hall of Famer coach inducted in 1954. Following Harlow was Hugo Bezdek who was coach from 1918-1929. He was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1954. Bob Higgins was coach from 1930-1948. In 1948, he led the Nittany Lions to a tie with the Southern Methodist University in that year’s Cotton Bowl. He was also a Hall of Famer inducted into the hall in 1954. Higgins was followed by Joe Bedenk who coached the team in 1949. Bedenk was a prominent coach who became a Hall of Famer in 1966. Rip Engle was the head coach from 1950-1965. He led the team to four Bowl Finals, emerging a winner in three, in the 1959 and 1960 Liberty Bowl and the 1961 Gator Bowl.

When Engle retired, he chose Joe Paterno as his replacement and he has since held the post until the present. Paterno’s latest victory was at the Capital One Bowl held at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. According to sources, his winning team included Daryll Clark who has the DARYLL CLARK Penn State Signed 8x10 Photo PSA/DNA, Stefen Wisniewski who has the Daryll Clark/Stefen Wisniewski Signed Magazine PSA/DNA and Evan Royster who has the EVAN ROYSTER Penn State Signed 8x10 Photo PSA/DNA.
