The team is based in Orlando, Florida. The Orlando Magic is a professional basketball team that is playing in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association. In the season of 1989, the team was founded as an expansion team. The team’s name was officially announced to the public on July 27, 1986. They are one of the four franchises that were awarded then by the National Basketball Association. With the leadership of William DuPont III, James and Robert Hewitt, the team was able to become the first ever major-league professional sports franchise in the Orlando Area. Moreover, the first team coach of the Orlando Magic was Matt Guokas. The team was then sold to the DeVos Family on September 19, 1991. The first home arena of the Orlando Magic was in the Amway Arena that was opened in the season of 1989. The Arena was actually known as the Orlando Arena.

 

 

The Orlando Magic was established in 1989. It was part of the four expansion franchise teams and is considered the most successful out of the rest in terms of winnings. The team is part of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. Out of 21 playoffs, the team has been to 12 of these. They have won five division titles in 1995, 1996, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and 2 conference titles in 1995 and 2009.

It was in 1992-1996 that Orlando came to love one of the team’s best tandems. This was the tandem between Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal. It was in 1992 that Orlando Magic won the lottery to get the first draft. With this the team picked what would be its best player, Louisiana State University’s Shaquille O’Neal. It was in the following year that Hardaway joined the team to complete the pair. It was during the Hardaway-O’Neal era that the team won its first Division and its first Conference Title. It would also be the first time that the team appeared in the NBA Finals.
