According to many sources, they are said to be one of the eight original teams in the WNBA that began to see action in the season of 1997. The first player that signed for the team was Rebecca Lobo. The first arena of the team was at the Madison Square Garden. And they played in that arena from the season of 1997 up to 2010. At present, their arena is at the Prudential Center. The present owner of the team is the Madison Square Garden, Inc and they are under the management of John Whisenant. In addition, the team’s mascot is named Maddie. The name of the New York Liberty was actually come from the Statue of Liberty. The New York Liberty was able to make it in the WNBA playoffs roughly in every season but they have not yet won a championship.
