The team is based in Uniondale, New York. The New York Islanders are professional team in ice hockey that is at present taking part in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. In the season of 1972, the team was founded. It was in the duration of the 1972 to 1973 NHL season. They were one of the franchises in the NHL in the New York City metropolitan area. The team started to play their first few games in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Nassau County. Until now, the New York Islanders is still having their home arena in the same place. On the other hand, it was in the season of 1975 that the New York Islanders was able to make one of the biggest turnaround in the history of NHL, for they were able to earn their first playoff berth. Moreover, the present owner of the team is Charles Wang and it is being managed by Garth Snow. 

 

One of the three NHL franchises in the New York City metropolitan area, New York Islanders together with New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers are in continuous rivalry known as the Battle of New York. The New York Islanders are located in Uniondale, New York.

 

Between 1980 and 1983, The New York Islanders bagged four consecutive Stanley Cup championships; a record well recognized by NHL in its history and is considered one of the nine dynasties.

 

Eight members of the New York Islanders have been honored into the Hockey Hall of Fame namely: Al Arbour, Mike Bossy, Clark Gillies, Denis Potvin, Billy Smith, Bill Torrey, Bryan Trottier, and Pat LaFontaine.  The first members of the Islanders to be inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame were Mike Bossy and Denis Potvin, in 1991. The New York Islanders pay tribute to their honored members by retiring the number these players wore on their jersey. The jersey numbers of the six players inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame are being honored in Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. These numbers will never be used again by any players playing for the New York Islanders as a sign of tribute to these great players.

 

The New York Islanders had achieved many franchise individual records. Mike Bossy garnered the most goals in a season, in 1978-79. Most Assists in a season was awarded to Bryan Trottier, in 1978-79. Most points in a season by a defenseman by Denis Potvin, in 1978-79.
