As an expansion team, they were established on November 1, 1966 by Dave Dixon, who at the same time established the Louisiana Superdome and the United States Football League. The team currently holds their home games in the Louisiana Superdome. Throughout the history of the Saints, the team has only acquired three division championships.
Since the Saints were established in 1967, the team had its remarkable year in 2006 when they were able to beat the Atlanta Falcons garnering a score of 23-3. This win of the Saints made them the recipient of the 2007 ESPY award for “Best Moment in Sports.”
