The New Orleans Hornets was originally called as the Charlotte Spirit. The name Hornets was then derived from the city’s fierce resistance to the British occupation during the Revolutionary War. The first arena of the team was at the Charlotte Coliseum in which they played from 1988 to 2001. They were then moved to New Orleans Arena and played from 2002 up to the present.
