The team’s name was derived from the result of the ‘Name that team’ contest. On November 3, 1989, they were able to make their debut against the Seattle SuperSonics.  In addition, five days after that, they made their home debut in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. In the season following that, they were then moved to their permanent home which is the Target Center. The present owner of the team is Glen Taylor and the team’s manager is David Kahn.
