From 1946 to 1947, the team was named as the Detroit Gems. From 1947 to 1960, they are called as the Minneapolis Lakers. Furthermore, they were started to be called as the Los Angeles Lakers from 1960 up to the present. It was in the season of 1972 that the team was able to win their sixth titles. The first one was in Los Angeles and was under Coach Bill Sharman. The team is currently playing in the Staples Center and the present owner of the Los Angeles Lakers is Jerry Buss.
