The Los Angeles Dodgers, located out of Los Angeles, California, are members of the Major League Baseball’s National League West Division. Established in 1883, the team was originally from Brooklyn, New York, where they were known by a number of nicknames before becoming the Dodgers in 1932. In 1958, the team moved from their beloved Ebbets Field out west to Los Angeles where they played at the famed Coliseum before moving in to iconic Dodger Stadium.
From their Brooklyn to Los Angeles days, the Dodgers have been one of the most successful teams in the history of Major League Baseball. In New York, the Dodgers took home an incredible 12 National League pennants as well as the 1955 World Series championship. History was also made in Brooklyn, where the Dodgers took a chance on allowing the first black player in MLB history, Jackie Robinson, on to their team, forever breaking baseball's color barrier. The ball club picked up right where they left off after their move to California. In their new home at Dodger stadium, Los Angeles went on to win five more World Series victories and played host to some of the greatest moments in league history. The memories of an injured Kirk Gibson hitting a game winning homerun in the World Series and Sandy Koufax throwing a no-hitter will love on in baseball history forever. Today, Los Angeles is home to some of the league’s most talented players, like Cuban all-star Yasiel Puig and NL Triple Crown pitcher Clayton Kershaw.
