The Indiana Pacers are an NBA franchise based out of Indianapolis that plays in the Eastern Conference's Central Division. The team began as an American Basketball Association expansion team in the 1960's and 1970's but joined the NBA after the league merger of 1976. In the team's nearly 50 year existence, they have played their home games at Indianapolis' State Fairground Coliseum, the Market Square Arena, and currently Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The three-time ABA champions have never won an NBA title but have relentlessly been one of the most competitive teams in the league year after year. The team struggled in its early years, but struck gold when they drafted Reggie Miller in 1987 out of UCLA. Miller quickly became the face of the franchise and the most recognizable player in Indiana history, as he was named a five-time all-star and led the Pacers to the 2000 NBA Finals. A number of talented players picked up the slack after Reggie Miller's retirement, like big men Ron Artest and Jermaine O'Neal in the mid-2000's. Currently, the Pacers serve as one of the Eastern Conference's most consistent and dominant teams behind high flying star Paul George and the 7'2" center Roy Hibbert.
