They are a franchise and a professional basketball team that is based in Indianapolis, Indiana. A group of six investors gathered their resources to buy a franchise in the proposed American Basketball Association. These are Atty. Richard Tinkham, sports agent Chuck Barnes, sports writer, Bob Collins, Chuck DeVoe and John Devoe. It was in the early 1967. The team was first named as the “Pacers” for the first seven years of the Indiana Pacers in their existence they were able to play in the Indiana State Fairground Coliseum. The Indiana Pacers’ home games were then played into the new Market Square Arena when they were moved. They stayed there for 25 years. In 1976, the Indiana Pacers is said to be one of the four ABA teams that was able to join the NBA in the 1976 ABA-NBA merger. The mascot of the team was Boomer. It is regarded to be one of the most known mascots in the NBA.
Founded in 1967, the Indiana Pacers started playing for the National Basketball Association only in 1976. The basketball team progressed through the years and waited for a great lineup.
It was in 1987 when they started to pick out more players for the team. Reggie Miller became part of the Pacers in this year. He played alongside John Long. The Pacers continued with the pick of Detler Schrempf who then became NBA’s 6th Man of the Year. Eventually, the choice to pick Miller paid off as he became part of the All-Star team. He continued his success in becoming the all-time NBA era leading scorer for the 1992-93 season. He later became the leader in the 1994 FIBA World Championship gold medal title.
In 1993-94 season, the team recorded 47 wins with it as their NBA-era franchise high. The Pacers won their last eight games for this season. One of their players at that time was Derrick McKey along with
Gerald Paddio. Fast forward to 1998-2000 season, the Pacers swept the Central Division with their 33-17 record. In this season, they won over Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers. They also made their NBA Finals appearance in this season and they were up against the Los Angeles Lakers.
One of the players who contributed well to the team’s success was
Shaquille O’Neal. He was one of the assets when the Pacers recorded a 61-21 season. O’Neal shared the spotlight with Ron Artest who then became that season’s Defensive Player of the Year. You can collect
