They are affiliated to the Northwest Division in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. The Edmonton Oilers are professional ice hockey team that is based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. On November 1, 1971, the Edmonton Oilers was founded. They were able to play then their first season on 1972. They are said to be one of the twelve founding franchises of the major professional World Hockey Association. The original owner of the team was Bill Hunter. He also owned the Edmonton Oil Kings. This is a junior hokey franchise. In addition, Hunter also founded the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League. They were renamed as the Alberta Oilers. Furthermore, the new owner of the team, Peter Pocklington then bought the team in 1978. They joined the National Hockey League in the season of 1979 to 1980 together with Quebec Nordiques and Hartford Whalers. Since this place was opened in 1974, the Edmonton Oilers played their home games at the Rexall Place.
