The Detroit Red Wings are the professional team in ice hockey that is based in Detroit, Michigan. The team was founded after a meeting was held following the 1926 Stanley Cup playoffs about consideration for applications for expansion franchises. On May 15, of that the same year, a franchise was approved. The new franchise adopted the Cougars as their nickname as honor to the folded franchise. In the first season that they have, the Detroit Red Wings played in Windsor, Ontario at the Border Cities Arena. It is because they still don’t have an arena. The team as the Cougars was moved into the new Detroit Olympia for the season of 1927 to 1928. A season after that, they were able to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
