The Detroit Pistons was first instituted as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons as a National Basketball League team and playing in the gym of the North Side High School, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was owned by Fred Zollner who at that time owned the Zollner Corporation. In the seasons of 1948, they began to compete in the Basketball Association of America or the BAA as the Fort Wayne Pistons. It was in the same year that they joined the NBA and they were moved to Detroit in 1957. Since then, they were able to win five championships. The team was subsequently sold to Bill Davidson in 1974. Until he died, Davidson owned the team until March 14, 2009.  The team’s colors were royal blue, red and white. At present, the owner of the team is Mike Llitch and currently managed by Joe Dumars.
