The Detroit Lions, based out of Detroit, Michigan, are a member of the NFL’s NFC North. Formed in 1929, the Portsmouth Spartans, as they were once known, were an independent football team until switching to the NFL a year later. After a move to Detroit in 1934, the team picked up their current name, the Detroit Lions, and have called Ford Field home since 2002.
In their 85 year existence, the Lions have won four NFL Championships, the last of which was in 1957. Despite their once hyper-successful record, the Lions have faced a severe drought in the past few decades when it comes to bringing home titles. Despite their lack of victories in the championship, the Lions have produced many Hall of Fame players such as Dutch Clark, Dick LeBeau, and Barry Sanders. They've also retired six numbers from use, also including Barry Sanders, Doak Walker, and Chuck Hughs.
