The Columbus Blue Jackets are part of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. In 1997, the Columbus Blue Jackets was able to enter an expansion bid. That was 22 years after the Cleveland Barons left in 1978 seasons.  They then took part together with the Minnesota Wild in the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft that was held in Calgary, Alberta. In addition, their first regular season was played on October 7, 2000. The first general manager and president of the Columbus Blue Jackets was Doug MacLean. Their first full season as a club was during the 2007- 2008 seasons. The team are said to be the earnmost team that is located in the Western Conference. For the first time in 2009, the Columbus Blue Jackets was able to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
