The Atlanta Hawks are an NBA franchise based out of Atlanta, Georgia playing in the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division. Before moving to the city of Atlanta In 1968, the team began in Buffalo, moved to the Tri-Cities area of Illinois as well as Milwaukee, and had a stint playing in St. Louis too. The Hawks became the first professional basketball team to ever play in the Southeast region of the United States and have stayed in Georgia ever since. Since 1999, the Hawks have played their home games at Atlanta's Philips Arena.
Although the Hawks have never won a championship in the city of Atlanta (they won in 1958 when they still played in St. Louis), the franchise has had a rich history filled with some of the NBA’s all-time greats. Atlanta was home to the only player to rival Michael Jordan is the ability to slam down a monster dunk, Dominique Wilkins. The Human Highlight Reel led Atlanta to two division titles and made his name as one of the most electrifying players to ever grace an NBA court. In the 21st century, many of the NBA's biggest names played their basketball in the Peach State, like sharpshooter Joe Johnson, do-it-all forward Josh Smith, and powerful big man Al Horford. Success is something the Hawks have not lacked as of late, making the NBA Playoffs each of their past seven seasons.
