Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Atlanta Braves are Major League Baseball team that is a member of the Eastern Division of the National League. Originally founded in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1971, the Braves are one of two National League teams that were charter franchises. First named the Boston Red Stockings, the team is regarded as the older continuously playing team in major league sports. After several name changes, including the Milwaukee Braves, Boston Braves, Boston Bees, Boston Braves, Boston Rustlers, Boston Doves, Boston Beaneaters, and Boston Red Caps, the team was finally deemed the Atlanta Braves in 1966. The Braves currently play at Turner Field, which has been the team's home ballpark since 1997, and are owned by Liberty Media.
After its early success and first World Series Championship in 1914, the Braves did not win another title until the 1957 World Series, in which the stored Hank Aaron led Atlanta to defeat the New York Yankees. The team's next title was won at the 1995 World Series courtesy of a Hall of Fame roster that included Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux. As a team that dominated the league for a large majority of its existence, the Braves have won three World Series championships, in addition to an astounding 14 consecutive division titles from 1991 to 2005. Throughout the Braves history, Atlanta also took home 17 National League Pennants and 16 total division titles, making the team one of the best in the majors.
