After playing for the Phillies, Carlton was acquired by the San Francisco Giants before he had a short-period retirement. Before the latter part of the 1986 season, he signed for the Chicago White Sox but was traded to the Minnesota Twins due to his inefficacy as a player. In 1993, he announced his final retirement.
