Hall of Fame thoroughbred race horse jockey, Ron Turcotte is well-known as the jockey of U.S. Triple Crown Champion, Secretariat. He was born in Drummond, New Brunswick, Canada.

He started his career in Toronto, Ontario being a hot walker for E.P. Taylor’s Windfields Farm in the year 1959. Turcotte then soon wore the silks and amazingly won races. When Turcotte was an apprentice jockey, he rode Windfields’ great Northern Dancer to his first ever victory. It was in 1965 when he earned prominence with his incredible victory aboard Tom Rolfe in the Preakness Stakes. He became well-known internationally in the year 1973 when he was able to ride Secretariat to the first Triple Crown win in 25 long years. Turcotte was then the North America’s leading stakes-winning jockey in the years 1972 and 1973. He was the first jockey to win back-to-back Kentucky Derby since Jimmy Winkfield and he is the only jockey to win five out of six successive Triple Crown races. Turcotte was voted the prestigious George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award which honors a rider whose career and personal conduct can be a model to participants in the sport of thoroughbred racing.
