Joe Theismann attended and played college football for the University of Notre Dame. In 1969, Theismann led the Irish to a number five ranking and their first bowl appearance in 45 years. The next year, the Irish had a 101 record, a number two ranking, and won against Texas in the 1971 Cotton Bowl Classic, 2411. Theisman was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. After a college career at Notre Dame in which he excelled at both basketball and football, the 1956 Heisman Trophy winner entered the NFL and quickly made his mark with the Green Bay Packers. Hornung put up big stats as a running back, receiver, kicker and occasional passer over the years and earned numerous awards, including NFL Player of the Year honors in 1960 and 1961 and enshrinement in the Hall of Fame in 1986. Tony Rice was part of the 1988 Notre Dame football team that would claim their first National Championship in 11 years. For the season the team would go a perfect 120 enroute to claiming an NCAA-record eighth AP National Championship since the poll began in 1936.
