Mike Richter Memorabilia

Considered as one of the most successful American-born goaltenders in the league history, Mike Richter is well known for leading the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup title in the year 1994. Born in Abington, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1966, Richter had repeatedly represented the United States in international play.

 

He was the 28th overall pick of the New York Rangers during the National Hockey League Entry Draft in 1985. Before he had his NHL debut, he had represented the US during the World Junior championships, World championships, and also in the 1988 Calgary Olympics. During the 1993-1994 season, Richter became the Rangers’ number one goaltender where he recorded a career-best 42 wins and 2.57 goals and the team had successfully won the Presidents Trophy leading to the Mike Richter autographed New York Rangers hockey puck as a significant item to him. It was in 1997 when Richter had his last appearance in the Stanley Cup due to his injuries in the knee but then he was chosen as the top goalie for Team USA in the years 1998 and 2002 Olympics and he won the silver medal during the 2002 games.

 

A year after the unforgettable victories of Richter, he suffered from a skull fracture that eventually led him to his retirement. It was in 2004 when Richter had decided to return to college and he studied at Yale College.
