The Yankees opened the new Yankee Stadium at the beginning of the 2009 season, which quickly acquired a reputation as a home run-friendly ballpark. After losing two out of three in Anaheim, the Yankees won the series in Game 6 at home, clinching the American League Pennant. They defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series 7 to 3, to take the series 4–2. The Series win added the Yankees 27th World Championship title to the storied franchise.
