Sabathia was slated as the starting pitcher for the Yankees season opener on March 26th 2009 which also marked his first start as a Yankee. In 2008 he earned the Warren Spahn award, presented to the top left handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. His large physique combined with a simple yet commanding pitch selection makes him an intimidating presence on the mound. CC is a model Yankee and currently runs a charity called PitCCh In, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of inner city youth by working to raise self-esteem through education and athletic activities.
