At present, the National Hockey League is composed of 30 playing teams where seven come from Canada and the rest are from the United States. Annually, the League awards the Stanley Cup at the end of every season to recognize the team that outwitted all of the other teams in the conference. According to sources, the League was founded on November 1917 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and its current commissioner is Gary Bettman.
Based on reviews, the Montreal Canadiens is noted to have won the most titles in the League garnering 25 titles and 24 Stanley Cups. Other favorite teams in the League include the New Jersey Devils who already won three Stanley Cups and has been the home of great players like Martin Brodeur and Travis Zajac, the Boston Bruins which bagged 23 Division Championships and the Florida Panthers which is currently owned by the Sunrise Sports and Entertainment.
There are different trophies and awards given in the League. Aside from the Stanley Cup, the team which has the most points during the regular season receives the President’s Trophy. NHL also gives the Art Ross Trophy for the scoring champion and the Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy for the player who becomes the goal-scoring leader. The games and playoffs of the League are mostly shown in CBC, NHL Network, TSN and Versus.
