For the Washington Redskins,  the past could not be a more glorious one. The 1980s and the first half of the 1990s were the glory years for the Redskins. Going to four super bowls and winning three of them, the Redskins were the team to beat. Were it not for the dominance also displayed by the San Francisco 49ers during that same time span, the Redskins could easily have laid claim to being the dynasty of the 1980s

Sammy Baugh joined the Redskins in 1937, and his skills at quarterback, plus his ability to play in multiple positions on both sides of the ball allowed him to make immense contributions. Leading them to the NFL championship on several occasions, his hall of fame career helped establish the bench mark for all future Redskins quarterbacks. Sonny Jurgensen continued the excellent quarterbacking tradition, and helped lead the team to several improbable victories during the course of his career. he is also known for leading the Redskins to their first Super Bowl appearance; a game which they lost to the Dolphins during their undefeated 17- 0 season. Joe Theismann would live up to these standards set by Sammy Baugh and Sonny Jurgensen. Leading the Redskins to two Super Bowl appearances and coming out victorious in the first of those, Theismann set numerous passing records during his career. Unfortunately for Theismann, his NFL career came to an end when he suffered a compound fracture while he was being sacked during a game owards the end of the 1985 season

With such an outstanding quarterback heritage, it is easy to overlook the contributions of John Riggins. The Hall of Fame Running back proved to be a pivotal components for two of the Redskins runs to the Super Bowl. Setting numerous Redskins rushing records, Riggins also set several post season records during the course of his career, taking a favorable position in the memories of the Redskin faithful.

The Redskins only have two Jerseys for their games. When they play at home, the Redskins play in a burgundy uniform that has white and gold stripes around the mouth of the sleeves. For away games, the Redskins wear a white jersey with a burgundy collar with Burgundy and gold stripes around the mouth of the sleeves.

For the Redskins, their arch rival is none other than the Dallas Cowboys. Constantly jockeying with each other for a better position in the NFC East, they have had many hard fought contests with intensity that few other rivalries can boast.
