St Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams is an NFL team based in St. Louis, Missouri. They have a long history, dating back to 1936, with only one change of location.
The St. Louis Rams began as the Cleveland Rams, and played their first season in 1936. The next year, they joined the National Football League, the owner paying an entrance fee of $10,000. Four original Rams players, from the first year, entered the NFL with the team. Interestingly, the 1937 Cleveland Rams and the current St. Louis Rams are considered to be two different teams because only the team owner and the four players were present in 1937.
The Rams began playing in the Western division. The reason for this was because they were technically the replacement for the Cincinnati Reds. 1941 brought a purchase of the team by Daniel Reeves and Fred Levy. The next year, Reeves joined the war effort and was not present for the entire season that his team played. In 1943, the team did not play because many players had joined the U.S. military. They continued to struggle with less than stellar records until 1945, when they ended the season with 9-1 games.
The team moved to Los Angeles in 1946, becoming the Los Angeles Rams. 1948 was the year that saw helmet logos for the first time, the distinctive ram horns still on the helmets today. In 1982, the team relocated to a stadium in Anaheim, California. They remained in California for 14 years, moving to St. Louis in 1994. There were many problems that the Rams had in Los Angeles, but in short, they weren’t selling tickets. They moved to St. Louis for the 1995 season.
The move led to much improvement on the team. In 1999, the Rams would compete in and win the Super Bowl. Despite recent problems with the ownership and coaching staffs, the Rams are considered to be a good team and there is optimism for future seasons.
Many players have been able to distinguish themselves while playing for the Rams. Marshall Faulk is currently a running back for Rams. Steven Jackson has been a running back for the Rams since 2004. Isaac Bruce has played for the Rams as a wide receiver. Marc Bulger, though no longer on the team, was a quarterback for rams from 2000-2009.
The Rams’ logo has changed extensively since their first season. The first logo associated with the team was a side profile of a ram, drawn in dark blue. The next logo, though similar, changed the colors from simply blue and white to bright yellow and blue. Currently, as the St. Louis Rams, the team colors are a darker blue and gold. The logo is a sideways facing ram, as always, but the colors are not as bright as they were in the previous incarnations.
