San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants jerseys have changed very little since the team moved from New York to San Francisco. In 1958, the team moved all the way across the country, but kept the same name upon arrival in San Francisco, California. The team did however change the uniforms. The new uniforms were short sleeved, white uniforms with the team’s name emblazoned across the chest. The team’s new logo replaced the “NY” for New York, and changed it to “SF” for San Francisco. This logo was placed on the front of the black cap, and was colored orange. The jerseys introduced in 1958 were full button up jerseys, and since that time period there have been very few changes, most of which have been minor. In 1973, the jersey saw its first change in 15 years. The coloring on the word “Giants” was reversed, and instead of black lettering with orange borders, it was now orange letters with black bordering. In 1977, the team began wearing pullover jerseys, and changed the script of the team name to a cursive font. It was also during this year that the orange road jerseys were introduced. These jerseys were orange with black letters and numbers, and they still used the block lettering that was popular before. Recently, the team’s road jerseys were changed to a black jersey with orange lettering, but other than that, there have been only a few minor changes in the past 35 years.
The San Francisco Giants struggled for their first several years in San Francisco, but recently, with the help of players like Barry Bonds, they have become a power again like they were in New York. In 2010, with the help of pitcher Tim Lincecum, the San Francisco Giants won the World Championship after defeating the Texas Rangers. Buster Posey was a key part of the team’s success, and jersey sales among Giants fans have shot up due to the recent success. Barry Zito jerseys are one of the most popular items sold by Giants’ fan shops, and fans regularly come dressed in various jerseys to support their home team. This team has reached the pinnacle of success recently in the Major Leagues, and with the addition of the World Series Champions to their resume, the team will look to build on their success in the coming years. An ace pitching staff, along with above average hitters and a brutal defense, will look to improve during the off season and help the team repeat as champions of the National League. Fans are excited about the prospect of another successful era of San Francisco baseball, and if the play keeps up, this team could be competitive for years to come.
