Originally members of the All American Football Conference, the team did not join the league until 1950. It was not until 1981 that the 49ers would win their first NFL championship. This victory, however ushered in one of the greatest dynasties in the history of the NFL. During that decade, the 49ers would be crowned NFL champions four times.

It was also during this decade that the 49ers would embark on one of the most remarkable feats in the history of football. Beginning in 1983, the 49ers embarked on a 15 year run in which they would win at least ten games. In eight of those seasons they would win thirteen games, with their most successful season coming in 1984 when they went 15-1 en route to a super bowl victory.

Since the 49ers inaugural season in 1946, the 49ers uniforms have undergone numerous modifications, but the San Francisco 49ers jerseys have not been altered too dramatically during this era. Their home colors have always been red, while their away jerseys have always been white.  In this sense, it can be stated that the uniforms have mirrored the consistency of the team and its star players; always remaining the same throughout the years.
