The New York Yankees jerseys date back over 130 years. The Yankees logo was created in 1877 by Louis Tiffany, and it was initially created for a medal that was given to the first New York City police officer to be shot while serving his city. The only other change that has been changed on the New York Yankees jersey is the placement of the logo. The logo was originally two separate letters on each side of the jersey, but it originally joined into one logo. For several years after today’s logo was created, it was only located on the hat, but in 1937, it reappeared on the uniform for good. Since then, the team’s uniform has not been significantly altered in its appearance, but it has been remanufactured to include modern materials. The New York Yankees jerseys are one of the greatest traditions in all of sports, and the team has one of the oldest, unchanged jerseys in all of professional sports. The New York Yankees have retired 15 players’ jersey numbers throughout their history, which is more than any other baseball team, and more than any other professional sports team other than the Boston Celtics. Some jerseys that have been retired include Babe Ruth jersey, Lou Gehrig jersey, and more. The team is known for having some of the league’s best players, and it is a regular competitor in Major League Baseball’s World Series. The Yankees have won more championships than any other professional baseball team, and dozens of hall of fame athletes like Alex Rodriguez and Mickey Mantle have worn the New York Yankees jersey throughout the team’s history. The high quality of play at the major league level, the all star talent that is brought in on a regular basis, and the competitive nature of the team have made the New York Yankees one of the world’s most recognizable sports franchises, and have skyrocketed the team’s popularity. The New York Yankees uniform remains unchanged, as does the quality of play and traditions of one of America’s favorite baseball teams.
