New England Patriots

New England Patriots jersey The New England Patriots jersey has seen many changes since the once-named 'Boston Patriots' entered the NFL in 1960. When the Patriots first began playing, the home jerseys were red and had blue and white stripes on the sleeves. They kept that theme for the first year, then decided to revamp their whole look entirely by the next season. The original logo also only made it one year and the the three-cornered hat was replaced by the football-hiking patriot.

The beginning of the 1961 season saw the newly-named, newly-logo-ed Patriot team also sporting new uniforms which included a bright blue jersey with white letters and red trim. Their helmet became silver with a smooth logo on the side rather than raised. In 1992 the logo was once again changed—this time to a silver patriot with a corresponding blue hat, red and white stripes, and a white star.  This logo is still present today.
Seven years later they redesigned their uniforms once again and the current uniform was introduced. The new uniform featured the same helmet logo, but the jersey was all new. They opted for a darker navy blue color, with red and white striping for trim. At this time they also introduced an alternate silver jersey.

Seven New England Patriot jersey uniform numbers have officially been retired:  #20 Gino Cappelletti, #40 Mike Haynes, #56 Andre Tippett; #57 Steve Nelson, #73 John Hannah, #78 Bruce Armstrong; #79 Jim Lee Hunt, and #89 Bob Dee.

The Patriot's are only the second team in NFL history—after the Dallas Cowboys—to win three consecutive Super Bowl games, between the years 2001-2005. Under Head Coach Bill Belichick, and quarterback Tom Brady, the New England Patriots also hold the record for the longest winning streak—21 consecutive games—in NFL history, both in regular season and playoff games.

The Patriot's boast of 15 former players in their team's Hall of Fame, which was established in 1991.  2008 saw the Hall of Patriot Place established, where there was not only a nomination committee for inductees, but now internet fans could vote for new inductees as well. Former and first owner, Billy Sullivan was inducted in 2009 in celebration of the Patriot's 50th season.

A long-standing rivalry has existed between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. A trading back and forth of head coaches only fueled the rivalry, when in 1996 Patriots head coach Bill Parcells left the Patriots to become the new head coach of the NY Jets. Then four years later, Bill Parcell's assistant coach, Bill Belichick resigned to become the head coach of the Patriots. Bill Belichick has received the Coach of the Year Award twice, once  in 2003, and then again in 2007.
